On April 10, 2014 actress Mira SoRvino made a speech in her role as a UN Goodwill Ambassador in the Global Fight Against Human Trafficking at the Vatican in the presence of Pope Francis and other participants of the conference (mostly Catholic bishops, cardinals, women religious and heads of law enforcement around the world).

In recent weeks Mira and her family have been regular attendees at St. Francis-in-the-Wood.  We are therefore very pleased that she has agreed to let us share the speech she gave at the Vatican here. Please click on the link below to read the speech.  It does not make happy reading, but the subject matter is vitally important, and it is incumbent upon us as people of faith not only to hear these words but also to rise up to respond and act.  To me, it is as if a plea is coming to us from Christ on the cross.

A special gathering was held at St. Francis on Saturday, June 22, 2014 at 10am to hear more from Mira and to explore ways in which we can become involved in this fight.  A write up of this meeting will be available in the forthcoming summer 2014 parish newsletter.
