Youth Guatemala Mission

The Youth Guatemala Mission team (Back row from l-r, Derek, Mark, Giles, Angus, Phil. Front row, Emilie and Emily)

In the summer of 2010, four youth along with two leaders from St. Francis-in-the-Wood traveled to Guatemala to join Rev. Emilie Smith, who is currently undertaking a two year mission with the Anglican Church of Central America.

They joined her at the Peace House in Santa Cruz del Quiche, where they met and worked with Guatemalan youth, and assisted the ministry she is undertaking by beautifying the centre and its garden

Our missionaries prepared for this trip by holding a number special events and fundraisers at St. Francis. In May 2010 we hosted a Spring Plant Sale and the Dessert Extravaganza. The Guatemala team also presented the mission, and helped serve lunch, to the parish at our Parish Picnic. We were also been supported by generous donors, who contributed frequent flyer miles to get the team to and from Guatemala!

At the end of June, the team traveled to Ross Lake for our pre trip orientation retreat. Rev. Emilie Smith introduced us to the history of Guatemala, and the work she is involved in at the Peace House.
