Friends,
This Sunday’s got me wondering: what vintage of grape are we going to enjoy? What pairs well with sunshine, good friends, and a table set for all?
The vineyard shows up all over Scripture — not just as a pretty backdrop, but as a picture of God’s people. Isaiah sings of a vineyard planted with care, yet producing sour fruit. The psalmist remembers when the vine flourished and now prays for God to tend it again. Jesus talks about fire — the kind that clears away what strangles life so something better can grow.
It’s not really about grapes. It’s about the kind of life we’re growing together: justice, mercy, steadfast love. Sometimes the vines thrive. Sometimes they need pruning. But in the Gardener’s hands, pruning isn’t punishment — it’s rescue.
So here’s what I’ve been wondering as I read the texts: if we’re the vineyard, what’s the fruit God’s been growing here lately? And what might be getting trimmed back so the life of the vine can flow freely again?
See you Sunday —
I’ll save you a seat.
