St. Francis-in-the-Wood Legacy Fund

The St. Francis-in-the-Wood Legacy Fund was established to support ministries and organizations serving people in need throughout British Columbia.

The Fund particularly supports work involving people who are experiencing poverty, homelessness, illness, disability, addiction, social isolation, or other forms of disadvantage.

In keeping with its Anglican foundation, the Fund gives particular consideration to projects sponsored or operated by Anglican parishes and the Diocese of New Westminster. The Fund may also support other charitable and community organizations whose work is consistent with its purposes. Where projects are otherwise equally worthy, preference is given to Anglican projects, with at least half of annual distributions directed to Anglican ministries.

Giving to the Legacy Fund

The Fund was created primarily to receive legacy gifts, including bequests made through a will or testamentary trust. It may also receive gifts made during a donor’s lifetime.

You may contribute through:

  • a gift in your will;
  • a testamentary trust;
  • a donation of cash or securities;
  • a gift designated for a particular eligible project;
  • an undesignated gift, allowing the trustees to direct it where the need is greatest.

Before making a designated gift, donors are encouraged to speak with the parish to ensure that the proposed purpose is consistent with the Fund’s governing by-laws and can be carried out as intended.

Applying for Funding
Application Deadline is October 1 yearly

Anglican parishes, diocesan ministries, charitable organizations, and community groups serving people in need in British Columbia may be considered for funding.

Applications are assessed by the Legacy Fund trustees. In considering a request, the trustees look at:

  • whether the project is consistent with the purposes of the Fund;
  • the credibility and capacity of the organization or individuals responsible for the work;
  • whether the project can be carried out effectively;
  • priorities identified by the parish;
  • whether the project is sponsored or operated by an Anglican parish or the Diocese of New Westminster.

Funding is normally intended for specific projects or ministries rather than ongoing general operating expenses.
